Below are a series of batá teaching resources. These computer-generated audio files are for batá students wishing to practise the Oru Seco (the drum only sequence played at the beginning of Santeria musical ceremonies) and chachalokefun, a generic toque (rhythm) from the Cuban batá corpus. These files are to facilitate students who have attended our workshops or learned from other sources. These files facilitate the practice on different drums–iyá, itótele and okónkolo–at varying speeds.
These resources have been donated by Antoine Miniconi who studied batá in Cuba for seven years with the ‘Chinitos’ family. He now lives in Mexico and is the founder of Asto, the meeting of live performed IDM electronic music and batá rhythms from the Afro-Cuban community of La Habana.
These resources are free to listen to or download. If you would like to find out more about Bombo event and workshops please subscribe to our mailing list or ‘like’ us on Facebook.
