Leeds Afro-Cuban Rhythm & Song Weekender

Leeds Afro-Cuban Rhythm & Song Weekender

26th & 27th October 2024

If you would like to be added to the waiting list or join the singing workshops, please get in touch.

We are delighted to be hosting our 3rd Afro-Cuban Rhythm & Song Weekender in Leeds,  led by David Pattman and Victoria Jassey. The weekend will cover songs for the Orishas, Cuban rumba, bata, and other forms of Afro-Cuban folkloric music.

We offer three types of workshops…

Level 1

A taster bata and rumba workshop for those without drumming experience.

Level 2/3

Suitable for those with prior knowledge of percussion and/or Afro-Cuban drumming styles. These workshops will teach parts, variations, and conversations for different drums, develop techniques, and show how songs fit with the rhythms.

Oricha & Rumba Song Workshops – tickets still available
Suitable for all levels. These workshops will teach beautiful songs which accompany bata and rumba drumming. They will also look at how the songs fit with clave.

It’s rare to find anyone as knowledgeable as Dave and Vicky. It’s even more rare to find people who are as generous and welcoming. Anyone who has an interest in Afro-Cuban music will be able get involved, learn and be pushed just enough – regardless of playing ability. I couldn’t recommend their courses/workshops highly enough. – Adam Robinson, 2022
