Journey of the Sacred Songs

Journey of the Sacred Songs is an educational project developed by Bombo Productions, offering interactive workshops and performances.
The Sacred Songs have endured for 500 years, carrying their stories with them into the present day.
Through their melodies and rhythms, their tales of suffering and heroism, we have a unique opportunity to explore the real impact of the slave trade on those who lived through it.
Their voices become our voices. Their fears are felt as if our own. Their decisions become decisions that we must face...
Journey of the Sacred Songs gives an immersive experience of the Trans-Atlantic Slave Trade, deepening the understanding of its significance and effect on Afro-Caribbean and Western history and culture.
“The children absolutely loved every second of their dynamic, inspiring and provoking integrated learning experience. I can recommend the project without reservation. It is simply outstanding".
Head Teacher, Tower Bridge Primary.
Storytelling - Partcipants will hear the dramatic stories which gave birth to the sacred songs, capturing their imagination and igniting intrigue and debate.
Drama - They will explore the historic events and feelings of the central characters through role-play, ‘thought tracking’ and ‘decision alley’.
Music - They will learn about ancient rhythms and songs, singing them for themselves with a full understanding of the human need at their heart.
Performance - The workshops culminate in a performance of storytelling and songs where the participants accompany professional actors and musicians on stage, bringing their ideas and responses to the stories to life in a magical presentation for everyone to enjoy.
Through these workshops the particpants play a vital role in keeping these stories alive. They are stories which then resonate in their own lives whether facing challenges, overcoming difficulty, resolving conflict or simply developing deep empathy for others.
This project is available to Key Stage 2 children, either for Black History Month or run all year round as part of your PSHE or history curriculum.
“The workshops were brilliant-especially in terms of educational value. The assembly was absolutely out of this world!”. Brook Primary School
Adult workshops are also available. These involve singing workshops which culminate in a performance of song, drumming and storytelling and can involve large numbers of participants.
